Today we show you one of our retired pieces of apparatus, “Old Engine 1.” Engine 1 was a 1978 Ford/Sutphen pumper that had a 750 gpm pump and a 1000 gallon water tank. It had a 534 cubic inch gas motor. It was the first apparatus purchased by the Department with rear jump seats, allowing Firefighters to pack up and be ready to fight a fire as soon as they arrived. Prior to this, firefighters rode to the fire standing on the rear tailboard of the truck, having to get their airpacks on after arriving to the fire. This pumper was replaced in 2005 by our current Engine 65.
